CCTV Electrical Services

Security cameras need reliable power and data connectivity to work properly. We handle the electrical side of CCTV installations, ensuring cameras have clean power supply, properly routed cable runs, and network connectivity for remote viewing.

Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Systems

PoE cameras receive both power and data through a single ethernet cable, simplifying installation and reducing cable runs. We install the Cat6 cabling from the camera positions back to the NVR or PoE switch, and provide a dedicated power point for the central equipment with surge protection.

Hardwired Camera Power

Some camera systems use separate power and video cables. We install weatherproof power supply points at each camera location, route the cabling discreetly through roof spaces and wall cavities, and connect the system to a dedicated circuit with RCD protection for uninterrupted recording.

Camera Mounting and Positioning

We mount cameras at optimal heights and angles for clear coverage of entry points, driveways, side gates, and outdoor areas. All exterior cameras are fitted using weatherproof brackets and sealed cable entry points to prevent moisture ingress. Interior cameras are positioned to cover high-value areas without blind spots.

Integration with Security Lighting

Cameras work best when paired with good lighting. We coordinate CCTV installations with security lighting to ensure camera coverage areas are properly illuminated at night. Motion-activated floodlights paired with cameras provide both deterrence and clear footage.

Want to add CCTV to your home or business? We handle the power supply, cabling, and mounting so your security system works reliably from day one.

Application Areas

Residential

Front door, driveway, side gates, rear yard, and garage coverage. We install systems that integrate with your phone for remote viewing and alerts. Typical residential setups use four to eight cameras with a central NVR and can include doorbell cameras.

Retail and Office

Point of sale, entry and exit, stock rooms, car parks, and loading areas. Commercial installations often require higher camera counts, longer recording retention, and integration with access control systems. We run dedicated circuits to keep the security system independent from other building loads.

Strata and Multi-Unit

Common area coverage for apartment buildings, townhouse complexes, and strata properties. We install cameras covering entry lobbies, car parks, bin rooms, and perimeter areas with cabling routed through common services risers and ceiling spaces.

CCTV FAQs

Do security cameras need an electrician?

If the installation involves running cable through walls or ceilings, installing new power points, or connecting to the switchboard, the electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician. This applies to most hardwired systems. Battery-powered cameras that simply mount on the wall are an exception.

Wired or wireless cameras?

Wired cameras (especially PoE) are more reliable. They do not suffer from WiFi interference, signal dropouts, or battery drain. Wireless cameras work for situations where running cable is not practical, but they still need a power source unless they are battery-operated, in which case recording time and resolution are limited.

How many cameras do I need?

For a typical Melbourne home, four to six cameras cover the main entry points and vulnerable areas. The exact number depends on the property layout, number of access points, and whether you want perimeter coverage or just entry point monitoring. We can assess your property and recommend a camera plan.

Can I view cameras remotely?

Yes. Modern NVR systems and IP cameras connect to your home network and provide remote viewing through a phone app. We configure the network connection and test remote access as part of the installation, including port forwarding or cloud service setup depending on the system.
