Does my hot water system need its own circuit?
Yes. Hot water systems must have a dedicated circuit from the switchboard with appropriately rated cable and circuit protection. This is a requirement of AS/NZS 3000 and ensures the system can draw its full load without affecting other circuits in the property.
What is off-peak hot water and is it worth it?
Off-peak (controlled load) tariffs charge a lower rate for electricity used during overnight hours. Your hot water system heats during these cheaper hours and stores the hot water for daytime use. The savings can be significant for storage systems, though the benefit depends on your retailer’s tariff structure and your household’s hot water usage patterns.
My hot water has stopped working. Is it electrical?
Check your switchboard first. If the hot water circuit breaker has tripped, reset it. If it trips again immediately, there is an electrical fault that needs investigation. If the breaker is on and you still have no hot water, the fault could be the element, thermostat, or a wiring issue. Call us and we will diagnose it.
