What We Install

Every power point installation follows AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules for cable sizing, circuit protection, and earthing. We work with the full range of power point types and configurations used in Melbourne homes and businesses.

Single and Double Outlets

Standard 10-amp and 15-amp single or double power points for general use. We install quality fittings from leading Australian suppliers and position them at the correct height and spacing for each room. New circuits are run from the switchboard where the existing circuit loading is already at capacity.

20-Amp and 32-Amp Outlets

Higher-rated outlets for appliances that draw more current. Air conditioning units, large ovens, workshop tools, and EV chargers often require 20-amp or 32-amp supply. We install the correct outlet type with appropriately rated cable and circuit protection to match the appliance requirements.

Floor and Bench Outlets

Pop-up floor outlets for open-plan living areas and island benchtops. These provide power where wall-mounted points are impractical. Floor outlets are recessed flush with the surface when not in use, and bench outlets can be integrated into kitchen islands and study desks for convenient access.

Three-Phase Power Points

For workshops, commercial kitchens, and industrial equipment requiring three-phase power. We install three-phase outlets with the correct plug configuration, cable rating, and switchboard connection for your specific equipment, whether that is a welder, compressor, or commercial oven.

Need a power point installed, moved, or replaced? We carry common fittings on the van and can usually complete the job in one visit.

Installation Situations

Older Homes

Homes built before the 1990s typically have fewer outlets than modern standards. We add power points in the locations where you need them most, running cable through existing wall cavities and ceiling spaces to keep the work neat and invisible.

Renovations

During a renovation, it is the ideal time to plan your power point layout properly. We work with your builder or designer to position outlets at the right heights and locations for furniture placement, appliance needs, and future flexibility.

Home Offices

A proper home office setup needs more than one double outlet. We install power points for your computer, monitor, printer, router, and charging station on a circuit that can handle the combined load, with data points alongside if needed.

How Installation Works

For a straightforward power point addition, the process is usually simple. We identify the nearest circuit that has capacity, run cable through the wall cavity or ceiling space to the new location, cut the opening, mount the fitting, and test. Most single-point additions take under an hour.

Where additional circuits are needed, we run new cable from the switchboard with a dedicated circuit breaker and RCD. This is common for high-draw appliances, outdoor circuits, and when existing circuits are already loaded with too many outlets.

Every installation is tested for correct polarity, earth continuity, and insulation resistance. We issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety for all work as required by Victorian regulations.

Power Point FAQs

How much does it cost to install a power point?

It depends on the type of outlet, the distance from the nearest circuit, and the access available. A simple addition near an existing point is straightforward. Running a new circuit from the switchboard for a dedicated outlet costs more but is sometimes necessary. We give you a clear price before starting any work.

Can I install a power point myself?

No. All electrical work in Victoria must be carried out by a licensed electrician. This includes installing, replacing, and relocating power points. A Certificate of Electrical Safety must be issued for the work, and your home insurance may be voided if unlicensed work causes damage or injury.

What is the standard height for a power point?

The standard mounting height in Australian homes is 300mm from the finished floor to the centre of the power point. Kitchen bench outlets are typically installed at 150mm above the bench surface. We follow these standards unless you have a specific reason for a different height, such as accessibility requirements.

Do I need RCD protection on all power points?

Current regulations require RCD protection on all new circuits. If your home has older wiring without RCDs on the power point circuits, we strongly recommend upgrading. RCD installation is one of the most effective safety upgrades you can make to your electrical system.
