DATA CABLING MELBOURNE
Data and Network Cabling
Structured data cabling for homes and businesses across Melbourne. Hardwired network connections that deliver the speed and reliability that Wi-Fi alone cannot match.
Why Hardwired Data Cabling Still Matters
Wi-Fi has improved significantly, but for applications that demand consistent speed, low latency, and reliable throughput, nothing replaces a hardwired ethernet connection. Home offices, streaming setups, gaming, smart home hubs, security cameras, and commercial networks all perform better on structured cabling.
Home Office and Remote Work
Remote work demands reliable internet. A hardwired connection to your home office eliminates Wi-Fi dropouts during video calls, provides consistent upload speeds for large file transfers, and removes the frustration of shared Wi-Fi bandwidth during busy household hours.
Smart Home Infrastructure
Smart home systems work best with a wired backbone. We install data points for wireless access points, smart home controllers, security cameras, and network-attached storage. This keeps your smart devices on a stable network separate from general Wi-Fi traffic.
Commercial and Office Networks
Businesses need structured cabling that supports today’s demands and scales for the future. We install Cat6 and Cat6A cabling for offices, retail, and commercial premises, including patch panels, cable management, and properly labelled network points.
New Builds and Renovations
Building or renovating is the ideal time to install data cabling. We run cables through walls and ceilings before plasterwork goes up, positioning data points in every room that might need a wired connection. This is far simpler and cheaper than retrofitting later.
A single data point for your home office or a full structured cabling installation for a commercial premises, we deliver neat, tested, and certified network infrastructure.

Data Cabling Standards
We install Cat6 as standard for residential work, which supports speeds up to 10Gbps over short runs and 1Gbps over the standard 100-metre distance. For commercial installations or future-proofing, we offer Cat6A cabling that supports 10Gbps across the full 100-metre run.
All installations are terminated neatly, tested with a cable tester, and labelled clearly. For commercial installations, we provide test certification documentation. Cable management is treated as a priority, not an afterthought.
In Australia, structured cabling installation is regulated. We hold the necessary licencing to install data and communications cabling in accordance with the Telecommunications Act and relevant Australian Standards.
Data Cabling FAQs
Can you run data cable through existing walls?
Yes. We retrofit data cabling into existing homes by routing cables through wall cavities, ceiling spaces, and under floors. While new builds are easier, we have the experience and tools to install cabling in most existing properties with minimal visible wiring.
What is the difference between Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A?
Cat5e supports up to 1Gbps, Cat6 supports up to 10Gbps over short runs, and Cat6A supports 10Gbps over the full 100m distance. We install Cat6 as standard for most residential work, and Cat6A for commercial or performance-critical installations.
Can data cabling improve my Wi-Fi?
Yes. By running data cables to wireless access points positioned throughout your home, you get strong Wi-Fi coverage everywhere without relying on a single router. This is more effective than mesh Wi-Fi systems that repeat a degraded signal.
How many data points does a typical home need?
This depends on your needs. At minimum, a home office, lounge, and a central point for a wireless access point. We help you plan based on your current and anticipated use, including locations for smart home devices and security cameras.
Do you test and certify data cabling installations?
Yes. Every cable we install is tested for continuity, wiring faults, and performance. For commercial installations, we provide formal test certification documentation.
