LED LIGHTING MELBOURNE
LED Lighting
LED upgrades, new installations, and lighting design for homes and commercial spaces across Melbourne. Better light output, lower energy consumption, and fittings that suit the architecture of your space.
LED Lighting Services
LED technology has transformed what lighting can do. The energy savings are significant, but the real value is in the range of colour temperatures, dimming control, and fitting styles available. We select and install LED solutions matched to the specific requirements of each room and application.
Halogen to LED Upgrades
Replacing halogen downlights with LED equivalents reduces energy consumption by up to 80% per fitting and eliminates the fire risk that halogen lamps create in ceiling insulation. The upgrade involves replacing the entire fitting, not just the globe, which means the new LED units are properly rated for insulation contact (IC-rated) and meet current AS/NZS standards.
LED Strip and Under-Cabinet Lighting
LED strip lighting is used extensively in kitchens, joinery, display cabinets, and architectural feature lighting. We install the strip, LED drivers, and dimming controls as a complete system. The result is clean, integrated lighting that looks intentional rather than added on afterwards. Colour temperature and brightness are selected to match the room.
Colour Temperature Selection
LEDs are available in a range of colour temperatures, from warm white (2700K) through to cool white (5000K). Living areas and bedrooms typically suit warm white for a comfortable feel, while kitchens, bathrooms, and workspaces benefit from a slightly cooler tone for clarity and accurate colour rendering. We recommend the right colour temperature for each space.
Dimming and Smart Control
Not all LED fittings are compatible with all dimmers. Using the wrong combination causes flickering, buzzing, or limited dimming range. We match the LED fitting to a compatible dimmer, or install smart lighting controls for scenes, schedules, and remote access. This is particularly important in open-plan living areas where multiple lighting circuits need to work together.
Ready to upgrade your lighting? We can assess your existing fittings and recommend the best LED solution for your space, whether it is a straightforward halogen replacement or a complete lighting redesign.
LED Applications
Residential
Whole-home LED upgrades including downlights, pendants, wall lights, strip lighting, and outdoor fittings. We work room by room to select the right fitting type, colour temperature, and control method for each space. Dimming circuits are set up with compatible hardware from the start.
Commercial
Office, retail, and hospitality LED installations designed for the specific lighting standards each space requires. Commercial spaces need proper lux levels, energy-efficient fittings, and often emergency lighting integration. We supply and install commercial-grade LED panels, battens, and feature lighting.
Outdoor
Garden, pathway, facade, and security lighting using IP-rated LED fittings designed for Melbourne’s weather. LED outdoor lighting runs on a fraction of the power that older fittings used, and the long lamp life means fewer replacements in hard-to-reach locations.

Choosing the Right LED Fittings
The LED market is flooded with options at every price point. Cheap fittings often have poor colour rendering, inconsistent colour temperature between units, and short lifespans. We use quality LED fittings from established manufacturers that maintain consistent performance across the installation and come with proper Australian compliance markings.
Key factors we consider when selecting fittings include CRI (colour rendering index) for accurate colour perception, beam angle for the right light spread, IC rating for safe installation in insulated ceilings, and IP rating for wet areas and outdoor locations. Getting these details right is what separates a good lighting result from a mediocre one.
LED Lighting FAQs
Can I just replace halogen globes with LED globes?
In some cases, but it is not recommended for downlights. Halogen downlight fittings are not IC-rated for direct insulation contact, and simply swapping the globe does not address this safety issue. Replacing the entire fitting with a purpose-built LED downlight is the correct approach and provides a better result.
Why do my LED lights flicker when dimmed?
Flickering is almost always caused by an incompatible dimmer switch. Most older dimmers were designed for resistive halogen loads and do not work properly with the electronic drivers in LED fittings. Replacing the dimmer with an LED-compatible model resolves the issue.
What colour temperature should I choose?
Warm white (2700K to 3000K) suits living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas. Neutral white (4000K) works well in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries. Cool white (5000K and above) is typically used in garages, workshops, and some commercial settings. We can help you select the right temperature for each area.
How long do LED fittings last?
Quality LED fittings are rated for 30,000 to 50,000 hours of use. In a typical residential application running six to eight hours a day, that translates to 10 to 15 years before the light output degrades noticeably. This is significantly longer than halogen (2,000 hours) or CFL (8,000 hours) alternatives.
