The Future of Home Energy Is Integrated
Solar panels generate clean electricity. Batteries store it for when you need it. EV chargers use it to power your transport. Individually, each technology delivers savings. Together, they transform your home into a largely self-sufficient energy system that dramatically reduces your dependence on the grid and fossil fuels.
A complete home energy solution - solar panels + battery storage + EV charger - can reduce a typical Melbourne household’s combined electricity and fuel costs by $4,000-$8,000 per year. That’s not aspirational; it’s what our customers are achieving today.
As an NETCC Approved Seller, Tesla Certified Installer, and CEC Accredited electrician, Carlin Co designs and installs integrated home energy systems across Melbourne. We’re one of the few installers in Victoria holding all three credentials - NETCC, Tesla, and CEC - ensuring your complete system is designed, installed, and supported to the highest standard.
How a Complete Home Energy System Works
During the Day (Solar Production Hours)
Your solar panels generate electricity. Your home uses what it needs in real time - appliances, hot water, heating/cooling. Any surplus first charges your home battery. If the battery is full and your EV is plugged in, the surplus charges your car. Only after all these uses is any remaining energy exported to the grid.
During the Evening and Overnight
When solar production drops off, your home seamlessly switches to battery power. The battery covers your evening peak usage - cooking, lighting, entertainment, heating - avoiding the most expensive electricity rates. Your EV can be set to charge from the battery or scheduled to charge during off-peak grid rates if the battery doesn’t cover it.
During a Power Outage
With backup power configured, your solar panels and battery continue to power essential circuits in your home even when the grid is down. Your EV can even act as an additional energy reserve in some configurations.
The Economics of Going All-In
Individual Component Savings
Solar panels (6.6kW): Save $1,200-$1,800/year on electricity by generating your own power during the day.
Home battery (13.5 kWh): Save an additional $800-$1,500/year by storing solar energy for evening use instead of buying expensive peak electricity.
EV charger + solar charging: Save $1,500-$2,500/year compared to petrol costs (based on 15,000 km/year driving, charging primarily from solar).
Combined System Savings: $3,500-$5,800+ Per Year
The combined savings exceed the sum of individual components because the system is optimised as a whole. The battery ensures maximum solar self-consumption, the EV charger uses surplus solar that would otherwise be exported at low feed-in rates, and smart scheduling across all components minimises grid purchases.
Bundled Installation Savings
Installing all three components in a single project typically saves $1,500-$3,000 compared to separate installations:
• One site visit instead of three - saving on labour costs
• One switchboard upgrade designed for the complete system
• Optimised cable routing and circuit design
• Single set of permits, inspections, and distributor paperwork
• System-wide configuration and commissioning

Available Rebates and Incentives
A complete system installation can access multiple incentive streams:
• Solar rebate (STC credits): $2,500-$4,500 off your solar panel costs (applied automatically at point of sale)
• Victorian battery rebate: Up to $2,950 through the Solar Homes Program
• FBT exemption: If your EV is salary-packaged, the charger may be included as a pre-tax benefit
• EV-specific incentives: See our Victorian EV charger rebates guide
Why Choose One Installer for Everything?
An integrated energy system needs integrated design. When solar, battery, and EV charger are designed together by the same team, you get:
Optimised system design: Components are selected and configured to work together, not just independently. Inverter sizing, battery capacity, and charger settings are all coordinated for maximum performance.
Single point of accountability: If anything goes wrong, you have one company to call - not three different installers pointing fingers at each other’s work.
Simplified warranty management: One installer managing all warranties, maintenance schedules, and system monitoring.
Future-proofing: Your electrical infrastructure is designed for the complete system from day one, even if you install components in stages.
